Young orphans. Home instead of a life on the streets, instead of hunger, theft and prostitution…

Uzhgorod, a city in western Ukraine, not far from the Hungarian border. Despite its proximity to Europe, the people here have a very hard time. Many people are very poor and don’t know what to eat. In Korintnjani near Uschgorod, there is a state-run children’s home where the supply situation is dramatically poor. A group of Ukrainian Christians decided to help there. A decision with far-reaching consequences: An international association, consisting of the Ukrainian Christians, Waisenhilfe- und Jugendhilfe Ukraine e.V. and DHHN, has since been founded. This has made it possible to significantly improve care for the children and to partially renovate and expand the home.

Unfortunately, in Ukraine, young people are required by law to leave state-run children’s homes as soon as they turn sixteen. Their future is a life on the streets with all the problems that entails: homelessness, unemployment, slave-like exploitation, hunger, crime, begging, drug addiction, disease, prostitution, forced organ donation, suicide, and early death.

To give these young people a better start in independent life, the youth center in Uzhhorod was established under the leadership of Waisenhilfe- und Jugendhilfe Ukraine e.V. (Orphan Aid and Youth Aid Ukraine). In a former fish factory, the young people can live in simple rooms and a family-like environment. Loving house parents are there for them around the clock. Slavik and Viktor organize training places for the boys, teach them Christian values, and support them in far-reaching and everyday decisions. It is really wonderful to see how former orphans become young men with a future! When the young men have completed their training, Slavik and Viktor find them a job. This frees up another of the coveted places in the orphanage. I am really enthusiastic about this project. The DHHN supports the home with regular aid transports.

You can help in a very simple way: for 25 euros, we can bring 200 kg of relief supplies to Uzhhorod, and for 50 euros, we can bring 400 kg. By the way, the donations you give to DHHN are distributed here, for example..
